Today we will finish writing the introduction to the Guided Research Paper.
Get in groups of two and open a Word document to write a first draft for the GRP introduction.
Write your names on the document.
The introduction should contain:
a) a hook (a general statement about the topic, a surprising fact or statistic, a quote, an anecdote, a question related to the topic, etc. In a few words, a statement that grabs the reader's attention.)
b) background information (Check the articles read and the organization website and decide which information you would include in the introduction. Remember one of the functions of the introduction is precisely "to introduce" the reader to the topic, to what aspects of the topic the paper will be dealing with, etc. You also need to present the organization you are investigating and briefly tell the reader what they are doing to solve the problem.
Keep in mind this is an introduction, don't give all the information at once; just introduce it.
c) thesis statement (tell the reader what the paper is about, what are you going to do with the topic, how you are conducting this analysis.) Write this in 2-3 sentences.
This thesis statement is tentative; it may change or vary as you write the body of the paper.
Send your document to my email address as an attachment: torresx2@illinois.edu
